The VELA Tango 600ES is an activity chair for disabled children with electric height adjustment – perfect for children and young people with special needs. The electric height adjustment helps the child to get into and out of the chair makes it possible to vary the seat height for different activities.
The VELA Tango 600ES supports activities and learning at school and at home:
An easy-to-use electric height adjustment assists when sitting down and standing up. It also ensures an optimal sitting height for activities and participation for children with reduced function in the legs, back and lower back, e.g. sufferers of muscular dystrophy, dwarfism, juvenile arthritis or CP
The stable base and central brake provide safety and support during activities or when the child needs to stand up, even in the case of impaired muscular function or dwarfism
The chair can be customised to the child’s needs by choosing from various seats and backs
VELA Tango 600ES is an activity and school chair intended for children and teenagers.
This chair supports inclusion, meaning children with special needs can remain in mainstream education and be taught alongside their classmates. The special needs chair is ideal for the classroom. VELA Tango 600ES has a unique braking system and electric height adjustment, which offers the child a stable seat at the right height and creates the best possible conditions for social interaction and learning.
VELA Tango 600ES with electric height adjustment is ideal for children with walking difficulties or balance problems. The chair provides safety and stability, and the child can easily adjust the chair to the required sitting height. This is a particularly useful feature for children and teenagers with cerebral palsy, muscular atrophy, arthritis or other problems affecting the musculoskeletal system.
The central brake ensures safety and is a good way of directing the child’s attention during a particular task, e.g. with additional support from a shaped seat and supporting armrests. This helps the child to stay focused, for instance, if the child is restless and easily distracted. VELA Tango 600ES has four directionally stable, smooth-running castors, enabling the chair to manoeuvre easily and to be used for transport between classrooms, for example.
The armrests provide stability as well as support when sitting down and standing up, for example, if the child has mobility or balance problems. The option to adjust the seat height, depth and tilt, as well as the backrest and armrests, helps to ensure a good ergonomic sitting position for maximum comfort and support.
The chair has an electric height adjustment function, meaning the child is able to adjust the height themselves, e.g. during activities or when getting into or out of the chair.
All VELA chairs can be ordered with a large selection of accessories and special solutions, enabling the chair to be adapted to the needs of the child or teenager, e.g. thigh supports, body supports. VELA can also offer individual solutions within padding, comfort, support, handles and electric adjustment.
VELA has a wide range of seating systems that can be customised as bespoke solutions. These can be adapted with cutouts in the cushion or by modifying the seat or backrest with wedges or inserts.
All VELA chairs are CE-marked and comply with applicable standards.

Build height
When choosing a seat height, it is important to consider the child’s size, level of function, needs and where the chair will be used.
Note: +6 cm must be added to the build heights below to know the sitting height, as the chairs are measured without seat.
Name | Low | Standard | High |
Description | This seat height fits most children. We especially recommend this height for smaller children, as the seat can come extra low, so the child can get in and out of the chair and easily switch between different table heights and activities. | This seat height fits most children. By raising the chair to full height, the child can reach eye level with others and freely switch between different table heights and activities. | We recommend this height if there is a need to get extra high - regardless of the child's size. Height Adjustment Controls
With a chair with electric height adjustment, you get an unlimited seat height change up and down – without effort.
Electric height adjustment is activated with a button on either the right or left armrest, making it possible to sit up high and low – thereby getting exactly the right height for the activity the child is doing without straining.
We recommend the buttons on the armrest if the child is the one changing the height.
Name | Armrest | Soft Touch Button |
Description | The height adjustment is activated with a button under the armrest, this can be positioned on the right or left side. | The height adjustment is activated via a soft touch button on the inside of the armrest. The soft touch button is easy to use even despite reduced function or mobility in the hands. This can be positioned on the right or left side. |

Upholstery Options
VELA offer a vast array of textiles that fit daily use and can withstand the regular wear-and-tear that happens over time.
Comfort
Is a very comfortable fabric with good breathability and optimal seating comfort – even over many hours.
The fabric has very high abrasion resistance and can therefore be used in private homes and institutions.
The fabric is easy to clean and is both oil and water repellent. Recommended if the chair is used a lot every day and is suited for one and several users.
Compound
Has a comfortable surface, but the seat can get a little “warm” with many hours of uninterrupted use, as synthetic leather is not breathable as, e.g., polyester or wool.
It can be a little slippery to sit on.
We recommend it for several users as it can be easily cleaned.
Mionetta
Is a soft microfiber fabric that is comfortable to sit on for many hours.
It has good breathability and is also water-repellent.
We do not recommend it for multiple users.
Backrest Styles
When choosing a backrest, be aware of the child’s need for support versus free movement. A backrest shall provide support and stability at the lumbar and upper part of the pelvis so that the child receives support in the sitting position.
Therefore, the backrest must have a height that fits the child’s back to ensure free movement at the shoulder and upper back.
In addition, it is important to clarify whether the child can sit stably without help or needs body supports to maintain a good, upright sitting position.
Name | E2 | E3 | Active XL |
Description | Is a well-padded backrest that provides a light suspension for the back and comfortable support especially suitable for children. The E backrest can be adjusted in height, depth and locked at an angle, so the child achieves as much support and free movement as possible for the upper body – for a good, active sitting position. We recommend this backrest if the child can sit stably and does not need extra support. You can also select body supports and harnesses for this backrest. | Is a well-padded backrest that provides a light suspension for the back and comfortable support especially suitable for children. Head Support
A headrest may be necessary to create a stable sitting position for the child. We recommend a headrest if the child quickly gets tired or sometimes needs support, rest or relief of the neck and head, and safety and support for involuntary movements.
Headrest HH with cushion is made of easy-to-clean leather and can be mounted on most backrests for child seats. The headrest can be adjusted in height, depth and angle so that the child achieves optimal relief of the head and neck.
Dimensions W x H : 17.5 x 9cm
Body Support
Body supports are suitable when the child does not have the strength and stability to sit by himself. We recommend body support when the child cannot maintain its midline and needs firm support under the arms or if the child tends to fall to the side or forwards.
Note: It is not possible to select body supports for the Support backrest in small and medium sizes. Please choose a different backrest if body supports are required for the chair.
Name | Straight Pad | Small Pad | Large Pad |
Description | This body support with a straight, padded cushion is suitable for children who need stable side support. It is adjustable in height, depth and width. The body support can be swung to the side during, e.g. transfer. The child can easily get in and out of the chair without doing anything about the body supports. | This body support with a small, curved PU cushion is suitable for children who need stable support in the sides and front. Push Bar
A push bar takes the helper’s working position into account when there is a need to transport the child in the chair over short distances.
This push bar can be easily adjusted in angle, height and depth to suit the person who is to push the chair. In addition, the push bar is easy to remove. We recommend a push bar if a helper or relative needs to transport the child, for example, to another room.
Seat Styles
When choosing a seat type, it is important to know the child’s size and support needs when sitting down. The seat must be the right size for the child to have the best sitting position and be supported correctly. Therefore, it is also important to change to a larger size before the child grows “out” of the seat.
When measuring the child, you must measure where the child is widest while sitting down (e.g. at the hips or over the thighs).
It is possible to change the seat on the VELA chair as the child grows or if the child’s needs change. With the proper support (maybe even accessories), you prevent the child from sitting badly or slipping on the seat.
Name | E Seat | E Seat with Pommel |
Description | E-seat (in general) provides light support along the thigh, supporting the child’s sitting position. At the back of the seat, there is a carved “basin” with two replaceable foam pads. These make it easy to change softness, support and seating comfort so that the child gets the proper relief and optimal stability in the sitting position. We recommend this seat if the child can sit without support. If the child needs more support in the sitting position, it is possible to mount accessories such as side supports, abduction blocks, and belts. | E-seats with a pommel has an elevation on the front of the seat. This seat also provides a slight separation of the legs and knees (abduction). We recommend this seat if the child needs slight help to keep the legs apart or if the child tends to glide forward in the seat. However, if the child needs a lot of support for the leg and knee, we recommend choosing a standard E-seat with an abduction block instead. |

Belt Options
A belt can be used for several purposes but is typically used if the child tends to slide forward in the seat or otherwise has difficulty sitting by himself.
A belt can help position the pelvis to make it easier for the child to maintain its sitting position and support in the lumbar and pelvis.
A belt can also ensure that the child does not get up from the chair and thereby fall.
Name | The Pevi Belt | The Y Belt |
Description | Is suitable for older children who need a supportive hip harness. The belt lies comfortably over either the thigh or hip with a vast supporting surface, which gently reduces the child’s risk of slipping forward in the seat. We recommend this type of belt for those children who need to adjust it themselves, as it is easy to loosen and tighten for the child while sitting in the chair. The belt can be washed at 40 degrees | Is a comfortable 4-point hip belt that can be adjusted in length. This belt lies comfortably over the thigh or hip and ensures that the child sits securely with good positioning of the pelvis so that the child does not slip forward in the seat. The Y belt is available with either a snap lock or a clamp lock and can be selected with a lock so that the child cannot open the belt himself, e.g. for safety reasons. Size large generally fits children that use E4 seats. Size medium generally fits children that use E3 seats. Size small generally fits children that use E2 seats. The belt can be easily removed and washed at 40 degrees. |

Thigh Support
Thigh support gives the child support, so it is possible to get a stable sitting position without using his powers to keep the legs in place. Thereby, the child is optimally supported without being limited in his activity.
Thigh support with padded cushions is mounted under the seat and is adjustable in width and depth in relation to the seat.
The cushions can either be mounted in the front of the seat to support the thighs or at the rear of the seat to support the pelvis and hip.
It is an individual assessment of what size thigh support should be on the chair from child to child.
This can, e.g. vary according to the child’s size and the need for support and stabilisation in the sitting position.
Name | Small | Medium | Large |
Description | With padded cushion, mounted under the seat and is adjustable in width and depth in relation to the seat. This thigh support is typically used at the back of the seat - however, it is an individual assessment from child to child, what size thigh handle should be on and where it should sit.

Abduction Block
Abduction block is beneficial for users with muscle tension or spasticity in the legs.
We recommend an abduction block if the child needs help to keep their knees apart.
An abduction block can minimise strain on the hip and knee joints, as the child can relax more and not spend unnecessary energy on keeping the knees apart.
The abduction block also causes the child to be supported against sliding forward on the seat.
When choosing a size, consider the child’s size and how much the knees need to be apart.
Name | Small | Medium | Large |
Description | An upholstered and adjustable abduction block in black Skai imitational leather. We recommend an abduction block if the child needs help to keep their knees apart. Size small (D: 11xW: 8xH: 6cm). Easy to clean.

Brake Selections
A reliable brake is one essential feature on a VELA chair, as the brake creates the necessary stability and safety that makes activity, learning and independence possible.
The central brake provides a stable and safe seat for the day’s many different chores – at school and at home. The central brake also makes it safe to get up and sit in the chair.
In addition, the brake must be easily accessible to the person who will use it. Therefore, knowing who will use the chair’s brake is important. All manual brakes are a combined hand and foot brake, where the hand brake lever can be easily removed if necessary.
It may be that the child has to use the brake, that only a relative or helper is allowed to use the brake, or that everybody must have the opportunity to brake the chair’s wheels.
If the floor is uneven or the child has sudden movements, the chair may need brakes on all four wheels to have a completely safe chair.
This chair is, as standard, equipped with a combined footbrake/hand brake with a lever on the right side.
Name | Hand Brake | Hand Brake with Extention | Hand Brake with T-handle | Electric Brake |
Description | The hand brake is the chair's standard brake, and we recommend it if the child has no special needs and the chair is at a standard height. | The extension handle extends the brake lever, making it easier for a child to reach, compared to a standard brake. We recommend an extension handle if the child is mainly sitting high, e.g., a 300mm electric lift. An extension handle also makes it easier to brake the chair, as you have to use less force with a longer brake rod. | The T-handle extends the brake lever, and at the same time, makes it wider, so it is easier to reach. We recommend this handle for children who have reduced mobility in the shoulders, arms or upper back. The T-handle makes it easier to brake the chair, as you have to use less force by having a longer brake rod. | We recommend an electric brake for those children who cannot operate a standard brake lever but still want to operate the brake independently. The electric brake can ensure that the child is as self-sufficient as possible despite a physical disability - and is an advantage for both caregivers and children. |

Wheel Brake
Name | 2-Wheel Brake | 4-Wheel Brake |
Description | The chair's standard brake. We recommend this brake if there are no special user needs or areas of use. | The 4-wheel brake ensures optimal braking on all four wheels, even if the chair is on an uneven surface. We recommend a 4-wheel brake if the floor is uneven and for children who have involuntary or sudden movements. |

Footrest Options
A footrest is often essential for the child to have an optimal sitting position. The feet must be supported when the child is sitting in the chair, so if the child cannot reach the floor while sitting, a footrest must be used.
The right footrest provides stability and security in the sitting position and reduces strain on the legs and body muscles while the child can maintain a good sitting position.
Fold-up Footrest
Name | Fold-up Footrest | S-Footrest S | S-Footrest M/L |
Description | Is located at the bottom of the frame and does not follow the seat height. It provides good support in all sitting positions where the child cannot reach the floor with its feet. The fold-up footrest does not support the whole foot but can be used as a step board when the child gets up and sits down. To get optimal use of the folding footrest, the child must be at least 150 cm tall. | Has a folding footplate and is mounted on the underside of the seat. In this way, the footrest accompanies the seat when adjusted in height, and the child gets good support for the feet regardless of seat height. We recommend the S footrest for all children under 150 cm and when having a particular need for support. If the child's lower leg length is between 21 and 31 cm, you should choose this size. | Has a folding footplate and is mounted on the underside of the seat.
